Monica is a professional award winning visual artist and lifelong creative entrepreneur. She has a successful track record in building a chain of retail stores (1975-1994) in the Greater Toronto area as well as continuing her own studio art practice and, is one of the founders of The Hills of Erin Studio Tour, established in 1988.
After selling the business Monica began a new chapter which included writing and training business courses, workshops and consulting services within the Retail and Arts and Culture sector. In 1999 she joined the Guelph Wellington Business Enterprise Centre as their first Business Advisor.
As a result of a commission from Quadra FNX Mining and working with a lab she developed a new surface material allowing her to use various substrates as foundations for her sculptures and functional works.
Using her business acumen, combined with her desire to see the economic well being of creative entrepreneurs improve she joined the Ontario Craft Council Board of Directors and was also instrumental in establishing a regional Arts Centre, The Alton Mill. She has represented Arts and Culture on regional Economic Development Committees and Tourism Boards and is a founding member of the East Wellington Chamber of Commerce.
Recently, she was appointed to Innovation Guelph’s Mentor team as their first female mentor where she continues to help entrepreneurs find success. She works from her rural studio outside of Rockwood Ontario and lives with her husband Dave and studio buddy, Seamus.
